Last Thursday, the Ladies League held its shoot-out and awards dinner to close out the year. The season went by quickly with a wide range of special events, fun and great golf. Thank you to all the ladies that played in the league! We hope to see everyone back next year.

Rally for a Cure Event planned for July 14

A special event to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research will be held Thursday, July 14 in conjunction with the Lake Panorama National women's golf league competition. Participants are asked to wear something pink.

Those who register and pay $20 will be in the "closest-to-the-pin" contest. Anyone whose drive lands on the green on the designated par-3 hole and stays on wins a golf ball. The person closest to the pin wins a “grand prize”. Each Rally participant will receive a gift bag and breast cancer awareness materials, plus a one-year subscription to a magazine of choice. To raise additional funds, a silent auction is being held. Bidding will close shortly after dinner on July 14. Winning bidders will be announced in the Links and the Ladies League blog.

Rally For A Cure, in partnership with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, is a golf program dedicated to spreading awareness in the fight to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.

2-Gal Invitational

The 2011 Lake Panorama National 2-Gal best shot Invitational is Thursday, June 23, 2011. Registration starts at 8:00 AM with a shotgun start at 9:00 AM. Lunch and awards will follow golf upstairs in the conference center.

The event is organized by the Lake Panorama Ladies Golf League. The day includes 18 holes of golf with cart, continental breakfast, lunch, raffle, door prizes and lots of fun.

Entry fee is $30 for members and $50 for non-members.

Registration forms were distributed at the Kickoff Dinner on May 5 but also are available at the Pro Shop and every Thursday at women’s league.

Please complete a form, include your check and give to our league treasurer Deanie Thomas as soon as possible so that the league board and pro shop staff can begin organizing the field of players.

Checks can be made payable to 2-Gal Invitational.

New Merchandise Arrivals

New women’s merchandise has been arriving in the LPN pro shop the last few weeks and is ready to go out the door with you.

So far this spring, we have EP Pro’s springs collection of High Society featuring a dark blue and white colored theme in polo’s, sweaters, jackets, shorts and skorts. More collections from EP Pro will be arriving soon. Oarsman sweatshirts are also in the shop with two different styles and a number of colors to choose from.

Don’t forget about the popular Town Talk visors in a number of bright colors for 2011 along with the new line of FootJoy shoes and gloves for women. We also have Pinnacle Ribbon golf balls in pink, white and purple in stock.

The fun will start with the league tee off dinner on Thursday, May 5 beginning at 5:30 p.m. “Put Fun On Your Plate” is the theme and will include dinner, program, gifts, prizes, and details about the 2011 league. It does not matter if you’re a long-time league member or a first-year member, the tee off dinner is something you won’t want to miss. If you do not have a partner or do not know if you want to join the league, the tee off dinner is a great place to find a partner, decide if you want to join, or sign up as a sub. The cost for the kickoff dinner is $15.

The following week on May 12, the season will open with a golf mixer. League competition begins May 19. Information about this years’ ladies’ league schedule will be available at the league tee off dinner.

Rally for a Cure - A Great Success

On July 15, the women’s golf league had their Rally for the Cure event on a beautiful night at Lake Panorama. A total of fifty-two women played in the event and wore pink to show their support for the Rally for the Cure. Between the silent auction, donation and other events during the night, the event raised more then $1,640.00 for the Susan G. Komen breast cancer foundation.

Michael Kleinwolterink helped out with the event by being on Hole #7 and handing out golf balls to the ladies that hit the green. Twelve ladies hit the green getting themselves a Rally for the Cure golf ball from Titleist.

IWGA District Team Champions

Congratulations to the team of Denise Norwood, Carla Fitzgerald, Fay Petersen and Sharon Wedemeyer for winning the IWGA District 13 Team Play competition. This event was held on Monday, July 12 at Otter Creek Golf Course in Ankeny, Iowa.

The fine play of the team resulted in them winning the Net Division by one stroke. Fay Petersen fired a score of Net 69 followed by Denise Norwood at 71. Sharon Wedemeyer finished with a 76 while Carla was one stroke behind at 77.

The team will advance to the state competition in a few weeks.

Good job ladies!

2-Gal Invitational a Great Success

The weather was perfect last Tuesday for the 2-Gal Invitational and the ladies enjoyed a great day of golf. Over 100 ladies played in this year's 2-Gal Invitational and the winning score was a 4-under par 68 by the team of Jean Burch & Julie Juffer.

Entry Fee:
The entry fee is $55.00 which includes a team shirt, prizes, Thursday night

The 2009 event will start with a 3-hole scramble during league play on Thursday, August 27, 2009, followed by the 6:30 pm rally at the Links with team selection, shirt handout and team pictures.

Sunday, August 30th golf tee times will begin at 11:00 am. Verify your starting time with the Pro Shop and be on the course ready to tee off at least
30 minutes before your match. Each foursome will have their pictures taken on
first tee.

Rally for a Cure

A special event to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research will be held Thursday, July 16 in conjunction with the Lake Panorama National women's golf league competition. Participants are asked to wear something pink.

Those who register and pay $20 will be in the "closest-to-the-pin" contest. Anyone whose drive lands on the green on the designated par-3 hole and stays on wins a golf ball. The person closest to the pin wins a “grand prize”. Each Rally participant will receive a gift bag and breast cancer awareness materials, plus a one-year subscription to a magazine of choice. To raise additional funds, a silent auction is being held. Bidding will begin July 9 and will continue in advance of league play July 16. Bidding will close shortly after league play on July 16. Winning bidders will be announced in the Links and the Ladies League blog.

Rally For A Cure, in partnership with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation, is a golf program dedicated to spreading awareness in the fight to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.

“LET IT FLY”

The 2009 Lake Panorama National 2-Gal best shot Invitational is Thursday, June 25. The event is organized by the Lake Panorama Women’s Golf League. The day includes 18 holes of golf with cart, continental breakfast, lunch, raffle, door prizes and lots of fun. Entry fee is $30 for members and $50 for non-members.

Lake Panorama National members are encouraged to invite a non-member to play in this event, which is a great way to introduce and showcase our beautiful course to new people. You can play with another member, also.

Registration forms were distributed at the Kickoff Dinner on May 7, but also are available at the Pro Shop and every Thursday at women’s league. Please complete a form, include your check and give to our league treasurer Marion Bailey as soon as possible so that the league board and pro shop staff can begin organizing the field of players. Checks can be made payable to 2-Gal Invitational. The deadline is Thursday, June 11.

The Women’s League Kickoff dinner was a great success and the league board and LPN staff are ready to get the year started this Thursday.

This Thursday, May 14, 2009 will be a 4-Gal Best Shot Mixer. The pro shop will pair up the foursomes for the first night of league. If you haven’t already, please sign up in the pro shop or give them a call. We will be taking sign ups to play until Thursday at 2:00 PM. Registration for Thursday night will start at 5:00 PM with announcements at 5:15 PM.

The Dinner Special for Thursday night is Hot Beef. New this year is the sign up sheet for the Dinner Special, if you haven’t signed up already, please do so by Thursday at 2:00 PM. This will help the kitchen staff with the amount of food to prepare for each night.

Spring is finally here and its time to think about GOLF!

If you haven't signed up for women's league yet, here's a link to the application form:

We have a goal to have membership booklets completed by the KickOff dinner. In order for us to do this, please respond to this note with your name, address, preferred phone number, and your golf partner. If you don't have a golf partner, let us know and we'll let you know of others that are without a partner currently.

The Kick-Off Dinner is May 7th at 5:30. Our theme is 'Gotta Love It'. Please have your calendars marked as we hope you plan to attend.

For the Kick-Off, we'd like to have a slide show during part of the program. If you have any good pictures relating to women's league golf, or tournaments, etc., please forward to Linda Reis.

Hopefully you'll recall that the Women's League released a challenge last fall for have members golf five - nine hole roundsof golf between September 24th through May 6th. If you haven't met this challenge yet, you still have plenty of time. Make sure the scores are recorded in the GHIN System before May 7th and your name will go in a drawing for a free gift at the Kick Off.

Dear Member;

A new year is about to begin and it is time to start thinking about the 2009 season of the Lake Panorama National Women’s Golf League. Your women’s league board and the professional staff at Lake Panorama National are putting together exciting plans for another great year of fun and friendly competition.

The fun will start with the league kickoff dinner on Thursday, May 7 beginning at 5:30 p.m. “Gotta Love It” is the theme for the kickoff dinner and will include dinner, program, gifts, prizes, and details about the 2009 league. It does not matter if you’re a long-time league member or a first-year member, the kickoff dinner is something you won’t want to miss. If you do not have a partner or do not know if you want to join the league, the kickoff dinner is a great place to find a partner, decide if you want to join, or sign up as a sub. The cost for the kickoff dinner is $15.

The following week on May 14, the season will open with a 4-gal best-shot mixer. League competition begins May 21. Information about this years women’s league schedule will be available at the league kickoff dinner.

If you plan to attend the kickoff dinner, please mail the completed form along with a check for $55 ($15 for the kickoff and $40 for league dues) to Marion Bailey, 4597 Panorama Drive, Panora, Iowa 50216. Rally for a Cure a Great Success

LAKE PANORAMA WOMEN’S GOLF LEAGUE RALLIES FOR A CURE

Sixty members of the Lake Panorama National Women’s Golf League took part in a special breast cancer awareness campaign August 21.

“Rally for a Cure” is the nation’s largest grassroots women’s golf program. Lake Panorama National is one of more than 3,300 golf clubs hosting a Rally event this year. The program provides a platform for volunteer ambassadors to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.

A silent auction of donated items raised $457. A closest-to-the pin contest was held on the par-3 seventh hole. Titleist golf balls bearing the pink ribbon breast cancer awareness symbol were awarded to players who hit and stayed on the green on their first swing. Danna Krambeer was closest to the pin and won a gift certificate for Etonic golf shoes.

All participants received a magnetic ball marker and clip, early detection information, and a pink-ribbon golf pin. Iowa Radiology donated note pads and a golf umbrella for each participant. Participants also are entitled to a one-year subscription to a choice of magazines.

Since its inception in 1996, Rally events have emphasized the importance of early detection in the successful treatment of breast cancer, and supported the mission of the Komen Foundation to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.

Last Thursday was the 2008 Kickoff for Women’s League and we had a great turnout with over 50 ladies showing up. They enjoyed a excellent dinner, raffle, drawings, fashion show and much more. A big thanks goes to the Women’s League Committee for making the night run so smoothly.

League competition does not start until May 22, but golf starts this week with the 4-Gal Mixer. Teams will be randomly drawn to form the 4-person teams and the winners will be announced after the round up at the Links. If you have not signed up already, please do so in the pro shop or by giving us a call.

Women’s Short Game Clinic:

Spring is here and its time to get ready for the 2008 Women's League at beautiful Lake Panorama National. Your women's league board and the staff at Lake Panorama National are putting together exciting plans for another great year of fun.

The season kicks off with the league kickoff dinner on Thursday, May 8 beginning at 5:30 PM. The night will include dinner, program, gifts, prizes and details about the 2008 league.

A New Season just Around the Corner

Only a few months remain until the start of the Lake Panorama National Women's Golf League! Your women's league board and the staff at Lake Panorama National have been putting together exciting plans for 2008 during this frigid winter. Everyone is looking forward to warm sunshine and a great year of fun and competition.

The league kickoff dinner will be Thursday, May 8, beginning at 5:30 p.m. The fun-filled theme of "Chicks with Sticks" will be used to kickoff the years events. The kickoff will include dinner, program, gifts, prizes and details about the 2008 league.

It doesn't matter if you're a long-time league member or a first-year member, the kickoff dinner is something you won't want to miss. If you don't have a partner or don't know if you want to join the league, the kickoff dinner is a good place to find a partner, decide if you want to join, or sign up as a sub. Cost for the dinner is $14.

The season opens May 15 with with a 4-gal best-shot mixer. Official league competition begins May 22. More information will be available at the league kickoff dinner.

Last Thursday, September 6 the Lake Panorama National Women’s League held its closing shoot out and dinner. The ladies enjoyed a great night for their shoot out and were treated to a pizza dinner afterwards.

Forty two ladies participated in this years grand shoot-out. The top three finishers in each group were:

Throughout the year chip in’s, birdies, sub points, and the most improved player were tallied up. Having the most chip in’s on the year were Marion Malone and Susan Bruckshaw. They each had two chip in’s on the year. Making the most birdies on the year, was Carla Fitzgerald. She carded four birdies during competition. Danna Krambeer took first place for the sub who contributed the most points on the year. Deb Douglass was right behind her in second place. The ringer or the most improved score on the year was Tracy Welberg. She improved her score on the year a whopping forty-five shots.

The league competition winners were split into three flights this year. Winning the 1st Flight with 46 points on the year were Nancy McCleeary and Sharon Wedemeyer. Lois Kriebs and Kathleen Leinen were second followed by Ellie Brooks and Fay Petersen in third place. Winning the 2nd Flight with 33.5 points was Kathy DeLucca and Diane Zapf. Mary Ann Wrigley and Roxie Ruth came in second with Deanie Thomas and Char Vulkovich in third. The 3rd Flight had three teams tie for first place. With twenty-five points each, Shirley Wiemers and Jo Juhl-Johnson, Betty Morris and Anne Witowski and Melodie Whiton and Katelyn Whiton all tied for first place.

The golden cowgirls on September 13, had their senior shoot out. The twelve cowgirls enjoyed a chilly night for the shoot-out and they sure didn't bluff in playing their golf shots. Winning group one was Susan "Belle" Bruckshaw. She took out Bonnie "The Outlaw" Rote followed by third place finisher "Frisco" Fay Petersen. Winning group two was Betty "The Bullet" Minick. She shot down Ruth "Red River" Allen and third place finisher Marion "Gold Rush" Malone. Thank you to all the ladies that played and the gallery for watching the cowgirls.

A big thank you goes to the women’s league committee for putting on yet another great year of events for the ladies at Lake Panorama National. We look forward to another great league next year.

The 8th Annual Ladies Solheim Cup-A Clowning Success

This past Sunday, August 26, 60 women participated in the 8th Annual Ladies Solheim Cup at Lake Panorama National. This year's captains were Denise Norwood and Ellie Brooks. The theme for this year’s event was "Come Clown a Round." The Solheim Cup was kicked off on Friday with a wine and cheese party. The teams and matches were announced and both teams had some cheering to do while taking team pictures.

The golf came down to Sunday with tee times starting at 11:00 AM. The women enjoyed great weather and course condition throughout the day. The matches were tight until the end with Captain Denise Norwood and her “Team Floppy Shoes” pulling out a slight win over “Team Baggy Pants” and Captain Ellie Brooks. Three weird clowns driving around with a traveling scoreboard entertained the women. The women were treated with those same clowns hitting exploding golf balls off the women’s tee. Afterwards, the clowns were never seen again.

The Solheim Cup ended with a great dinner and awards ceremony. The players enjoyed great food and cupcakes during the awards presentation. The night came to the end with this year’s Captains Denise Norwood and Ellie Brooks announcing next year's Captains, Nancy Oxley and Joyce Groom.

Women's League Season Wraps up September 6

The women’s league regular season will conclude with a shoot-out and awards dinner on Thursday, Sept. 6. All league members, including those who were subs, are invited to participate.

The shoot-out will begin at 5:30 p.m. For the shoot-out, individuals will play in several small groups based on their handicap. Each group will start on a different hole, with players eliminated on each hole until the top three finishers in each group are determined.

Following the shoot-out, an awards dinner will be held in the north banquet room of the conference center. A buffet of salad, pizza and dessert, plus ice tea, lemonade and coffee will be available at no cost to all league members, including those who were subs in 2007. The women’s league will be covering the full cost of this year’s awards dinner.

League members who do not want to participate in the shootout are welcome to watch the event, and encouraged to attend the dinner.

Following dinner, awards will be presented to shoot-out winners, team winners, players with the most birdies and chip-ins, most improved players, and the sub who contributed the most to total wins.

A sign-up sheet for those interested in playing in the shootout, or attending the dinner, or both, will be available the last two weeks of league and in the pro shop during other times. If you have not yet signed up, please do so no later than noon on Sept. 6.

Also, mark your calendars for the Women’s Senior Shoot-out that will be held Thursday, Sept. 13 beginning at 4:30 p.m. (note this is an hour earlier than last year). Sign up in the pro shop if you will be 60 years of age or older by Sept. 13. If you’re too young to play in the shoot-out, come out and cheer on the competitors!

LAKE PANORAMA WOMEN'S GOLF LEAGUE RALLIES FOR A CURE

Fifty-eight members of the Lake Panorama National Women's Golf League took part in a special breast cancer awareness campaign July 19. "Rally for a Cure" is the nation's largest grassroots women's golf program.

Lake Panorama National is one of more than 3,300 golf clubs hosting a Rally event this year. The program provides a platform for volunteer ambassadors to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.A silent auction of donated items raised $490. A closest-to-the pin contest was held on the par-3 seventh hole. Titleist golf balls bearing the pink ribbon breast cancer awareness symbol were awarded to players who hit and stayed on the green on their first swing.

Debbie Rockwell was closest to the pin and won a $65 gift certificate.All participants received a magnetic ball marker and clip, early detection information, and a pink-ribbon golf pin. Iowa Radiology donated small bags filled with sunscreen and lotion for each participant. Participants also are entitled to a one-year subscription to Golf for Women magazine.

Since its inception in 1996, Rally events have emphasized the importance of early detection in the successful treatment of breast cancer, and supported the mission of the Komen Foundation to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.

AUGUST DATES FOR 18-HOLE PLAY

Interest continues to be strong for the special 18-hole playing opportunities that were scheduled the past two months. Three additional dates have been set for August play. We have four tee times beginning at 1 p.m. on three Tuesdays - Aug. 7, Aug. 14 and Aug. 28.

Let the pro shop know by noon that day if you plan to play and they will do pairings and score cards. Just show up a bit ahead of the first tee time for your assignments. No cost and no competition, unless you and your playing partners settle on a side game to make things a bit more interesting!

RALLY FOR A CURE EVENT PLANNED FOR JULY 19

A special event to raise money for breast cancer awareness and research will be held Thursday, July 19 in conjunction with the Lake Panorama National women's golf league weekly competition. Participants are asked to wear something pink.

Those who register and pay $20 will be in the "closest-to-the-pin" contest. Anyone whose drive lands on the green on the designated par-3 hole and stays on wins a golf ball. The person closest to the pin wins a $60 gift certificate.Each Rally participant also will receive a gift bag and breast cancer awareness materials, plus a one-year subscription to Golf for Women magazine. To raise additional funds, a silent auction is being held. Bidding began July 12 and will continue in advance of league play July 19. Bidding will close shortly after our round that night. Items being auctioned include socks, a visor, a cap, umbrella, pink floral arrangement, delicious baked goods and much more. Winning bidders will be announced in the Links and funds collected.

Our annual Rally for a Cure fundraiser will be July 19 as part of regular league play. The cost is $20 and includes a year's subscription to Golf for Women magazine, a small gift packet and the chance to win a golf ball on one of the par 3 holes if you land and stay on the green. Plus a larger prize if you're closest to the pin on that green.

Carolyn Koberg is coordinating this event and will have the sign-up sheet available for the next couple of weeks so bring your checkbooks and get signed up. As part of the Rally, we'll again be conducting a silent auction, with the items out for bids July 12 and 19. Winning bids will be announced and contributions collected following league play on the 19th so plan to bid early and often! We already have several nice items for the auction but would welcome your donated items as well. Bring items to league or get to Carolyn, me or another board member.Carolyn also is working on plans for a larger auction item for the following evening - Friday, July 20 - as part of the Sadie Hawkins couples. This would give the men in our lives the chance to get involved with this charity event. More details to follow.

2-Gal Invitational:

2-GAL GOLF INVITATIONAL AT LAKE PANORAMA DRAWS 92 PLAYERS

Forty-six teams competed in the 2007 Lake Panorama 2-Gal Best Shot Invitational June 21. The annual event is organized by the Lake Panorama Women’s Golf League.

The champions were Ellie Brooks and Deb Vandekamp with a score of 73. Second place went to Glenda Bruggeman and Terry Pudenz, also with a 73. Karol Hare and Janice Schwartzkopf took third place with a 74.

In the second flight, Jean Beshear and Sheryl Mellor took first place, Deb Douglass and Deb Rockwell were second and Jerilynn Klaver and Peggy Purvis were third.

Jennifer Dilley and Becky Matzdorff won the third flight, with second place going to LuAnn VanKirk and Marcie Rohach and third place going to Karen Bump and Kelly McNabb.

Marion Malone and Deanie Thomas won the fourth flight, with second place going to Shanell Wagler and Gayle Shackelford and third place to Mary and Melissa Hills.

In the fifth flight, it was Lois Kriebs and Conni Jeschke in first place, Barb Moore and Chris Scott in second place and Betty Minick and Mary Ann Wrigley in third.

Bonnie Rote and Linda Cope took first place in the sixth flight, with Molly Gerlich and Nan Haler in second and Joyce Groom and Nancy Oxley in third.

Individual event winners were Diane Duzenbury, Jean Beshear, Glenda Bruggeman and Marian Lester.

Major sponsors for the tournament were Guthrie County State Bank and Panora State Bank. Other local businesses contributing to the event were Broker’s International, Panorama Gardens, Abigail Annie’s, Hometown Foods, Log Cabin BBQ, Ben Franklin, House of B, Dowd Drug and Prime Time restaurant.

A reminder the women's golf league has four tee times reserved beginning at 1 p.m. on Tuesday, May 29 for any league members interested in playing 18 holes. No entry fee, no winners or losers, just an opportunity to play some extra golf with fun women! If you'd like to play, please call the pro shop no later than noon on Tuesday and get your name on the list.

They'll make foursome pairings so check in a few minutes ahead of 1 p.m. to see what time you tee off.18-hole play at 1 p.m. also will be available June 5 and June 26 so mark your calendars. If there is enough interest, we'll put together some additional dates in July and August.

Lake Panorama National members are encouraged to invite a non-member to play in this event, which is a great way to introduce our course to new people. Please complete a form and get it and a check to league treasurer Kathy De Lucca as soon as possible so the league board and pro shop staff can begin organizing the field of players. 4-Gal Mixer Results:

Thank You to all the ladies that played in the 1st 4-Gal Mixer of the year. There was a great turn out and the scores were very tighh amongest all the groups. Winning in a scorecard playoff with a score of 35 was the team of Melodie Whiton, Katelyn Whiton, Betty Minick & Linda Reis. Winners of the pin events for the night was Longest Putt Gail Keenan and Closest to the Pin in 3 Katelyn Whiton.

Women's League:

Next week, May 24 is the first night of league competition. We encourage all teams to play and enjoy the new point system on the first night. Please call the pro shop if you will be needing a sub or unable to attend.

Welcome to the 2007 Women's League Kickoff Dinner!

The women's league committee has worked all winter to put together an exciting and fun women's league for 2007. With a new point system and handicap system, this years league will be the best yet.

Be sure to get signed up for the drawings, raffle, and prizes that we have going on tonight. League starts next week with a Mixer Best Shot Play at 5:30 pm on Thursday, May 17. The following week, league competition starts.

Women’s League Kickoff May 10

The Lake Panorama National Women’s Golf League board and the Lake Panorama National staff are putting together plans for another great year of fun and friendly competition.

The league kickoff dinner will be Thursday, May 10. Registration and a cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. “South of the Border” is the theme for the evening. There will be a short program including a style show with league board members showing off some of the great new clothes in the pro shop. There also will be gifts, door prizes, raffles and much more.

League entry forms were sent in January but also are available in the pro shop. If you plan to attend the kickoff dinner, mail the completed form along with a check for $54 ($14 for the kickoff and $40 for league dues) to Kathy DeLucca (address is on entry form). If you can’t attend the kickoff, send the completed form and $40. Either way, the deadline is May 3. Entry forms can also be downloaded by clicking HERE.

It doesn’t matter if you’re a long-time league member or a first-time member, the kickoff dinner is something you’ll want to attend. The League Schedule

The season opens May 17 with a 4-gal best-shot mixer. We’ll also have a mixer on July 5. Our annual Rally for a Cure event to raise money for breast cancer research will be held as part of league competition on July 19. The complete schedule for the year, plus some special events for women golfers that will take place at Lake Panorama, can be found below this post.

League competition begins May 24 and will last for 13 weeks. The women’s league board and pro shop staff have devised a new scoring system that will give golfers of all skill levels the chance to earn points each week. At the end of the season, teams will be placed into one of three flights based on point totals. Come to the May 10 kickoff dinner to learn more about this new scoring system.

The Start on Time, End on Time Plan

League registration begins at 5 p.m. each Thursday, with announcements at 5:15 p.m. and a shotgun start at 5:30 p.m. If we all arrive in plenty of time for registration and announcements, we can get to our assigned tee box on time, and finish our rounds long before the sun goes down!

The Fun Doesn’t Stop After Nine Holes

Each week of competition, there will be three special events — two on the course and one “mystery” event. Event winners will be recognized weekly in The Links after play is complete. Also recognized will be players who scored birdies, chip-ins, eagles and holes-in-one! Food and drink specials will be offered weekly.

The Technical Stuff

Every player participating in league must have a USGA handicap. If you do not yet have an established handicap, please try to play at least one round before league competition begins May 24 so a tentative handicap can be determined. Handicaps will be adjusted weekly as additional rounds are played and scores recorded. The pro shop staff will distribute scorecards each week at registration that reflect current handicaps for each player.

A new year has begun and it is time to start thinking about the 2007 season of the Lake Panorama National Women’s Golf League! Your women’s league board and the staff at Lake Panorama National are putting together exciting plans for another great year of fun, plus friendly competition.

The league kickoff dinner will be Thursday, May 10, beginning at 5:30 p.m. “South of the Border” is the theme for the evening, which will include dinner, program, gifts, prizes and details about the 2007 league. All Wraped Up

The 2006 Women's League at Lake Panorama National is all wraped up for another year. This year's league was a memorable one with great competition in the flights and great golf in the shoot-outs.

In the Flighted Competition the number of points seperating first and second was a slim margin. In the 1st Flight, Glenda Bruggeman & Denise Norwood won by a point and a half over Ellie Brooks & Fay Petersen. In the 2nd Flight, Bonnie Rote & Carole Sours won by just a half a point over Carole Peterson & Shirley Stephenson. In the 3rd Flight, Shirley Wiemers & Jo Juhl Johnson tied with Betty Morris & Dee Smith for 1st Place.

Year end prizes were given to the sub that contributed the most, the player with the most chip ins, and the player with the most birdies. The sub winner for the year was Danna Krambeer with Sandy Lowe finishing second. The chip in winner for 2006 was Marcia Harris. There was a three way tie for birdies with Diane Duzenbury, Ellie Brooks, and Susan Thompson each making two a piece.

The year end shoot-out had over 40 players playing in 6 different groups. Congratulations to the winners of each group: Carla Fitzgerald, Marian Lester, Carole Peterson, Conni Jeschke, Tracy Welberg, and Ruth Allen.
In the Senior Shoot-Out, 9 players toured the front nine hoping to become the 2006 Champion. Playing through the pressure along with a bit of luck, Carole Peterson survived the last hole to be the 2006 Women's League Senior Shoot-Out Champion.

Thank You to all the ladies that played in this years Women's League and we look forward to another great year in 2007. A big thanks to the board members for all their time and effort that they put into the women's league. This year's board members were Susan Thompson, Roxie Ruth, Sharon Wedemeyer, Kathy DeLucca, Conni Jeschke, and Nancy McCleeary.

Solheim Cup:

The Solheim Cup ladies played through the chilly temperatures on September 17. Captain McCleeary and Captain Petersen prayed for no rain that day since the original date was a rain out. With no rain on Sunday, 48 ladies played in the chilly temperatures with great golf shots and great competition. The matches were tight and both captains were nervous as the final few groups played up the 18th green. Team Attitude with Captain Fay Petersen finished the matches with 20 points to win the Solheim Cup over Team Humor with Captain Nancy McCleeary.
A big thanks to the two captains for all their hard work and effort they put into this years Solheim Cup. The tournament ended up being three different days of great fun. Thank You to Barry Monaghan for running the beverage cart and the sponsors for sponsoring the Solheim Up.

Women's League Season Wraps Up September 7

The women's league regular season will conclude with a shoot-out and awards dinner on Thursday, Sept. 7. All league members, including those who were subs, are invited to participate.

The shoot-out will begin at 5:30 p.m. For the shoot-out, individuals will play in six small groups based on their handicap. Each group will start on a different hole, with players eliminated on each hole until the top three finishers in each group are determined.

Following the shoot-out, an awards dinner will be held in the north banquet room of the conference center. A buffet of salad, pizza and ice cream sundaes, plus ice tea, lemonade and coffee will cost $5 per person. League members who do not want to participate in the shoot-out are welcome to watch the event, and encouraged to attend the dinner.

Following dinner, awards will be presented to shoot-out winners, team winners, players with the most birdies and chip-ins, most improved players, and the sub who contributed the most to total wins.

If you have not yet signed up for the shoot-out, or dinner, or both, please do so by noon on Sept. 7 by calling the pro shop.

Also, mark your calendars for the Women's Senior Shoot-out that will be held Thursday, Sept. 14 beginning at 5:30 p.m. Sign up in the pro shop if you're 60 years of age or older. If you're too young to play in the shoot-out, come out and cheer on the competitors!

Competition is heating up for the ladies at Lake Panorama National Golf Course!

With only one week left of Flighted Competition for this years Women's League, this weeks play will determine the winners. In the 1st Flight, the team of Norwood/Bruggeman is holding a one point lead over the team of Minick/Reis. In the 2nd Flight, the team of Rote/Sours has a half point lead over the team of Peterson/Stephenson. In the 3rd Flight, the team of Wiemers/Johnson has a half point lead over the team of Morris/Smith. There are many more teams within striking distance that can win their flight if they do well on Thursday. Stay tuned for the exciting finish.

Women's League:

Only two weeks remain until the end of the Flighted Competition. The leaders of each flight are starting to get bunched up so the last few weeks will be exciting to see which teams come out on top. On September 7, the women's league will have the Final Shoot-Out and Awards Dinner for the players of this years league. Everyone is encouraged to play in the Shoot-Out and come up to the Link's afterwards for dinner and prizes. On September 14, the women's league will host the Super 60 Shoot-Out, where ladies 60 years of age or older will be playing in their own shoot-out. 2006 Solheim Cup

The 2006 7th Annual Solheim Cup will be held at Lake Panorama National golf course on Sunday, September 10 with tee times starting at 11:00 AM. This year's theme is Fore Fun, and the captains are hoping that all members of Lake Panorama National join them to have fun. This year's captains are Nancy McCleeary, Team Humor, and Fay Petersen, Team Attitude.

The format of the event is six holes of each of Better Ball, Alternate Ball, and Best Ball. The "Fore Fun" festivities will start at 6:00 p.m. on Friday, September 8 at the Conference Center with light hors d'oeuvres, team selection, and shirt handout.

To play in this year's Solheim Cup, you must be a member of Lake Panorama National and have an established handicap.
The entry fee is $45.00 which includes a team shirt and hors d'oeuvres on Friday along with prizes and dinner on Sunday.

LPN's District Team Advances & Women's League Competition

LPN Women Win District – Headed to State!

Congratulations to the Lake Panorama National women’s team that competed in the District 13 tournament July 10. The team of Carla Fitzgerald, Fay Petersen, Linda Reis and Sharon Wedemeyer won the net division and earned a trip to state competition! The state tournament, sponsored by the Iowa Women’s Golf Association, will take place Monday, Aug. 7 at the Ames Golf and Country Club.

In 2005, a Lake Panorama team won the net division in the state meet. Can this year’s team make it two in a row? Stay tuned! And good luck!

Thursday the 13th a Washout for Women’s League:

The 13th brought bad luck to the women’s league as play was stopped before it got started because of a fast-moving thunderstorm that dumped more than an inch and a half of rain on Lake Panorama National. While the course needed the rain, it was disappointing not to get to play what had been planned as the final week of “regular” competition.

After consulting with the pro shop staff, a decision has been made that the team match-ups planned for July 13 will be used for July 20. This will give the women six weeks of competition before being divided into three flights based on team point totals. A new schedule will be distributed July 27 as the league begins its “Flight to the Finish” with another six weeks of competition.

LAKE PANORAMA WOMEN'S GOLF LEAGUE RALLIES FOR A CURE

Fifty-one members of the Lake Panorama National Women's Golf League dressed in pink and took part in a special breast cancer awareness campaign July 6.
"Rally for a Cure" is the nation's largest grassroots women's golf program. Lake Panorama National is one of more than 3,300 golf clubs hosting a Rally event this year. The program provides a platform for volunteer ambassadors to raise funds for the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation.
A silent auction of 15 donated items raised $137.50, as part of the local event. Another $50 was raised by Michael Kleinwolterink, Lake Panorama National assistant pro, selling his drives on the first hole for $1.
A closest-to-the pin contest was held on the par-3 seventh hole. Titleist golf balls bearing the pink ribbon breast cancer awareness symbol were awarded to nine players who hit and stayed on the green on their first swing. Gloria Ahrendsen was closest to the pin and won a pair of Etonic golf shoes.
All participants received a mesh bag filled with tees, early detection information, a pink-ribbon golf pin and pink bracelet. Each participant also is entitled to a one-year subscription to Golf for Women magazine.
Since its inception in 1996, Rally events have emphasized the importance of early detection in the successful treatment of breast cancer, and supported the mission of the Komen Foundation to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.

Members and guests of the Lake Panorama Women's golf league wore pink July 6 as part of their "Rally for a Cure" breast cancer awareness event. The group poses on the first tee box before golf, which was followed by a silent auction to raise money for breast cancer research.

Rally for a Cure:

This Thursday, July 6 the Lake Panorama National women's league will be raising money for breast cancer awareness and research through Rally for a Cure. A four-gal, best-shot mixer will be the format, with several special activities planned.

Participants are asked to wear something pink for a group picture. Those who register in advance and pay $15 (or donate more!), will be in the "closest-to-the-pin" contest. Anyone whose drive lands on the green on the designated par-3 hole and stays on wins a golf ball. The person closest to the pin wins a new pair of golf shoes.

Each Rally participant also will receive a custom utility pouch, a Komen wristband and a breast cancer awareness piece with pink ribbon reminder stickers for their calendar, plus a one-year subscription to Golf for Women magazine.

To raise additional funds, a silent auction will be held. Items will be available for bids beginning Thursday, June 29. Bidding will close July 6 shortly after our round. Items being auctioned include seven pairs of socks, a visor, umbrella, golf club grip, pink floral arrangement and delicious baked goods.

Rally For A Cure, in partnership with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Golf For Women magazine, is a golf program dedicated to spreading awareness in the fight to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.

2-Gal Invitational was a Great Success

Fifty teams competed in the 2006 Lake Panorama 2-Gal Best Shot Invitational June 22. The field included 42 members and 58 non-members. The annual event is organized by the Lake Panorama Women's Golf League. The theme for this year was "Ladies of Golf."

The champions were Karol Hare and Janice Schwartzkopf with a score of 70. Second place went to Jennifer Dilley and Shelley Hogue, also with a 70. Third place winners were Ellie Brooks and Fay Petersen with a 72.

In the second flight, Jo Dee Rogers and Pat Rutherford took first place, Denise Norwood and Rhonda Buchanan were second and Jolene Wright and Susan Muench were third.
Barb Thorsheim and Cindy Johnson won the third flight, with second place going toLinda Winget and Bev Sherlock and third place going to Susan Thompson and Roxie Ruth.
Mary and Melissa Hills won the fourth flight, with second place going to Kelley McNabb and Karen Bump and third place to Shirley Housby and Rubi Woodburn.

In the fifth flight, it was Judy Lindquist and Mary Kay Brown in first place, Carole Peterson and Susan Bruckshaw in second place and Kathy De Lucca and Marion Lester in third.
Katy Gammack and Susan Tyler took first place in the sixth flight, with Sandy Zimmerman and Pat Dooley in second place and Sherry Anderson and Conni Jeschke in third.

Individual event winners were Denise Norwood, Susan Muench, Kelly McNabb and Jodi Sutton.
Major sponsors for the tournament were Guthrie County State Bank and Panora State Bank. Other local businesses contributing to the event were Broker's International, Panorama Gardens, Medicap, DICA Marketing, Chad's, Abigail Annie's, The Wishing Well, Hometown Foods, Scents of Nature, Log Cabin BBQ and The Port.

This is the ninth year for this 2-Gal Invitational at Lake Panorama National. Next year's tournament will be held June 21, 2007.

Anyone whose drive lands on the green on the designated par-3 hole and stays on wins a golf ball. The person closest to the pin wins a new pair of golf shoes.

Each Rally participant also will receive a custom utility pouch, a Komen wristband and a breast cancer awareness piece with pink ribbon reminder stickers for their calendar, plus a one-year subscription to Golf for Women magazine.

To raise additional funds, a silent auction will be held. Items will be available for bids beginning Thursday, June 29. Bidding will close July 6 shortly after our round. Items being auctioned include seven pairs of socks, a visor, umbrella, golf club grip, pink floral arrangement and delicious baked goods.

Rally For A Cure, in partnership with the Susan G. Komen Breast Cancer Foundation and Golf For Women magazine, is a golf program dedicated to spreading awareness in the fight to eradicate breast cancer as a life-threatening disease.

The pro shop has just received new women's merchandise from Tommy Hilifger and Aureus. The Tommy Hilifger collection includes shorts and shirts in bright blue and purple patterns. The Aureus items are microfiber wind vests in a variety of different colors.

League Competition Gets Underway

Women's League:

Lake Panorama National Women's League competition started last Thursday, May 25. The league has 28 teams battling the first six weeks of league to be paired later on into 3 flights for the Flight to the Finish. The big winners of the special events on Thursday night were:

Carole Peterson : Longest Putt on Hole #1
Sonja Hambleton: Closest to the Pin on Hole #7
Mystery Event: Gail Keenan and Tracy Welberg
(Both of these ladies had a score of 13 when combining the 18th & 14th handicap holes and were closest to a total of 14 to go along with Memorial Day because Francis Scott Key wrote the Star Spangled Banner on September 14, 1814.)

2-Gal Invitational:

GET REGISTERED FOR 2-GAL INVITATIONAL JUNE 22

The 2006 Lake Panorama 2-Gal Best Shot Invitational will be held Thursday, June 22, organized by the Lake Panorama Women’s Golf League. The theme for this year’s event is “Ladies of Golf.” The day includes 18 holes of golf, plus cart, continental breakfast, snacks, lunch, raffle, door prizes and lots of fun, all for just $30 for members and $50 for non-members.

Lake Panorama National members are encouraged to invite a non-member to play in this event, which is a great way to introduce our course to new people. But you also can play with another member.

Registration forms were included in the women’s league information packets, but also are available at the Pro Shop. Please complete a form and get it and a check to Kathy De Lucca as soon as possible so the league board and pro shop staff can begin organizing the field of players.

This is the 9th annual 2-Gal Invitational at Lake Panorama National. Come join the fun and help make this one the best yet!

Women's Golf League Season Gets Underway!

The Lake Panorama National Women’s Golf League kickoff dinner was Thursday with 48 in attendance. Teams and a list of subs are being finalized and a booklet of all league participants will be distributed in the next week or two.

The next league event will be Thursday, May 18. This will be a four-gal best-shot mixer. A sign-up sheet was circulated at the kickoff dinner. If you plan to play Thursday, but haven’t signed up, please contact the pro shop so the teams can be arranged before that night. A special feature of the mixer will be John and Gary hitting drives on each of the par-3 holes to see if they can do as well as any of the women on each team. If they do, the team can use the pro’s shot. Plan to join us in the Links after the round drink and meal specials, as well as prizes.

League team competition will begin the following week, Thursday, May 25. Besides the match-play competition, there will be three special events each week – two flag events on the course and one mystery event, for which there will be a special mystery gift. Anyone scoring a birdie, chip-in, eagle or hole-in-one also will be honored weekly in the Links after the round.

Help Brighten Our Course!

Members of the women’s golf league are being recruited to help plant flowers on tee boxes around the course. A special planting event will take place Monday, May 15. Barb Wollner has the plots tilled and flats of flowers that need planted. Join us at the old pro shop beginning at 4 p.m. on Monday. Bring a trowel and gloves. It’s been said “many hands make light work” so we hope to see many of you, and your gloved hands, on Monday!

The kickoff dinner for this years "Flight to the Finish" 2006 Women's League at Lake Panorama National is almost here. The league kickoff dinner will be Thursday, May 11. Registration and a cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with dinner at 6:30 p.m. There will be a short program, gifts, door prizes, raffles and much more as we join together to build enthusiasm for the 2006 league.

Women's Merchandise:

In the past week, the pro shop has gotten in EP Pro basic knit tops and bottoms in a number of different bright colors. Each piece is designed to go with other tops or bottoms in the collection to make you look fashionable out on the course.

Aureus outerwear for women has arrived to keep you dry and warm in this sometimes cool and wet spring. TownTalk visors in two different styles with a nice selection of colors are in the pro shop too. With these new items, you will be able to outfit your look on and off the course.

Short Game Clinic:

The golf professional staff at Lake Panorama National will be offering a short game clinic to both members and non-member women. The clinic is designed to improve women's golf scores by instructing them with the proper technique of pitching, chipping, or putting the ball. The short game is the most important aspect of ones golf game because over 50% of your score is dictated by the short game. The clinic will be held on May 16, May 23 and May 30. The starting time for the clinic is 5:30 pm and the cost for members is $30 and for non-members $45. Deadline to sign up for the clinic is May 9. Taking a look into Sung Ah Yim's bag illustrates how golfers are taking their difficult to hit clubs out of their bags and putting in easier to hit clubs. New women's merchandise is arriving daily in the pro shop. We now have two different spring collections of EP Pro in the shop along with two different types of Camp David clothing.

EP Pro Collection:

The new collection is called Island Girl and consists of Lush tropical print in coral and dessert sand with cypress green accents on stretch cotton sateen take you away to the easy and relaxed feeling of the islands. Adorable hooded sweaters, leaf jacquard polos, and Tour-Dry ® tech sleeveless tops compliment the textured microfiber skorts, 20'' two-way stretch shorts and stretch cotton striped cropped pants.

The other EP collection is called Calypso and consists of striking navy and hibiscus pink. The League Schedule:

The season opens May 18 with a 4-gal best-shot mixer. We’ll also have a mixer on July 6 in conjunction with our annual Rally for a Cure event to raise money for breast cancer research. The complete schedule for the year, plus some special events for women golfers that will take place at Lake Panorama can be found by clicking on the Schedule for Women's League and Special Events post on the right hand side of this page under previous posts.

The Flight to the Finish:

League competition begins May 25. For the first six weeks, the format will be the same as in the past. After July 13, the pro shop will use point totals earned so far to split the league into three flights. The last seven weeks of competition will be played against teams within those flights. Points from the first half of the season along with the last half of the season will be used to determine winners in each flight.Flighting the league this way will allow more teams the opportunity to win prize certificates, plus teams with similar skills will be playing against each other during our final seven weeks as we make our “Flight to the Finish.” League standings will be posted weekly in both the Snack Shop and the Pro Shop.

The Start on Time, End on Time Plan:

League registration begins at 5 p.m. each Thursday, with announcements at 5:15 p.m. and a shotgun start at 5:30 p.m. If we all arrive in plenty of time for registration and announcements, we can get to our assigned tee box on time, and finish our rounds long before the sun goes down!

The Fun Doesn’t Stop After Nine Holes:

Each week of competition, there will be three special events — two on the course and one “mystery” event. Event winners will be recognize weekly in The Links after play is complete. Also recognized will be players who scored birdies, chip-ins, eagles and holes-in-one! Food and drink specials will be offered weekly so plan to join the fun and fellowship.

The Technical Stuff:

Every player participating in league must have a USGA handicap. If one has not been established, a player will begin with a 15-handicap that will be adjusted weekly as additional scores are available. Handicaps for those who do have enough rounds for an established handicap will be updated every two weeks. The pro shop staff will distribute scorecards at registration that reflect current handicaps for each player.

Taking a inside look at Meena's bag can provide help for women considering new golf equipment. The irons she uses are 5 iron thru PW. She has removed her 3 and 4 irons in favor of easier to hit fairway woods like her 5-wood, 7-wood, and 9-wood. These fairway woods along with hybrid clubs are being used more and more to replace those difficult to hit 3 and 4 irons. Meena also uses the latest Ping Driver, the G5, to maximize forgiveness and distance. However, the loft on her driver, 9 degrees, is something that the average women would not want because they would hit the golf ball to low. The average women would want a driver with 11-13 degrees on it.
